President Obama Had Dinner With Anthony Bourdain Bun Cha Hanoi

US President Barack Obama arrived in Vietnam on Sunday, May 22, for his tenth trip to Asia. He was also scheduled to visit Ho Chi Minh City. What’s a trip abroad without some good local food?

Following President Barack Obama took a detour during his trip to Vietnam to grab dinner with Anthony Bourdain.. The president of the United States and the adventurous TV chef, dined at local restaurant Bún chả Hương Liên in Hanoi, where they chatted over bowls of grilled pork with noodles and other Vietnamese dishes.

Bún chả  is a Vietnamese dish of grilled pork and noodle, which is thought to have originated from Hanoi, Vietnam. Bún chả is served with grilled fatty pork (chả) over a plate of white rice noodle (bún) and herbs with a side dish of dipping sauce. The dish was described in 1959 by Vietnamese food writer Vu Bang (1913–1984) who described Hanoi as a town “transfixed by Bún Chả.” Hanoi’s first bún chả restaurant was on Gia Ngư, Hoàn Kiếm District, in Hanoi Old Quarter. Another recommendation for Bún Chả from Lonely Planet and TripAdvisor travelers is Bún chả Đắc Kim at number 1 Hàng Mành street, in Hanoi Old Quarter.

Barack Obama didn’t want to miss out Monday night in Hanoi, so he hit the town with renowned chef-turned-television host Anthony Bourdain. The pair dined together at Hương Liên restaurant.

Total cost of Bún Chả dinner with the US President: $6.00. I picked up the check,” Anthony shared, adding, “Low plastic stool, cheap but delicious noodles, cold Hanoi beer.”

Bún chả Hương Liên first opened in 1993 and has since been run by several generations of the family. The eatery has been popular with locals for more than two decades.

After Barack Obama’s recent visit, the Bún chả Hương Liên restaurant has been become to the best seller in Hanoi for grilled pork and noodle, the restaurant is always busy with full of customer. They’ve launched the new menu is OBAMA’S COMBO and it has been the best one. Everyone comes to restaurant and asks for Obama’s combo.

There is a lot of love from Vietnamese people to the friendly US President and there is a lot of great things Barack Obama did for Vietnamese people in his visit.
